THIS WEEK IN DYSART

DYSART BUSINESS COMMUNITY  FEATURED IN NATIONAL MAGAZINE

A number of Dysart business owners recently attended the annual Atlanta Market which is one of the largest in the United States.  Imagine their surprise and pleasure when they discovered a national magazine, Gift Shop, had a special feature on the success of the unique businesses in Dysart, Iowa.  The article highlighted the fact that with lots of creative effort, retail businesses in a small town can thrive.  It also mentioned the efforts  of the local Hospitality and Tour Team in promoting the local businesses.

The editor of the magazine was urged by Wanda Petersen, owner of Sassy’s Boutique and Dysart Business Builders President, to take a look at her small town.  Tom Lundvall of Vinton, who is a correspondent for the Cedar Rapids Gazette, interviewed all the business owners and took many  photos.  However, the magazine editor chose to feature four businesses in the five page article.

According to the article, “Dysart is a small town in Iowa–a really small town.  It has a population of only 1,300 but the energy and drive on Main Street is proof that small towns (as well as big) can be favorable to thriving businesses.”

The editor stated that she was amazed at Dysart’s successful energetic retailers.

Anyone who would enjoy  the article and the beautiful photos can find a copy at the Brick-a-Brack Building or at the Norma Anders Library.

H.A.T. COMPLETES A BUSY 2009

The past year was a very busy year for Dysart’s Hospitality and Tour Team.  The group welcomed approximately 1590 folks who came to shop, visit, enjoy tours, and the great food in Dysart’s restaurants and tea room.  The H.A.T. team is sponsored by the Dysart Development Corporation

During the summer, fourteen tours of Dysart’s City landscaped areas and residents’ gardens were enjoyed by visiting groups.  The groups ranged in size from eight to forty participants.  There were also ten Holiday Home Tours conducted during December.

In addition to greeting visitors and conducting tours, the H.A.T. Team participated in a number of other activities.  The activities in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls area included the Go Red  Day and Walking Tall for women’s health, a program for the Christian Women’s Club, staffing a booth at the Bridal Show,  and assistance at the Dysart booth at the Waterloo Home Show.  The group was  honored by the Tama County Economic Development group and participated in a Tama County radio program, welcomed the Iowa Great Places judges to Tama County, and assisted with the Iowa Tourism group which toured  the county and the City of Dysart.  The Team also presented programs on their work to several local groups and assisted the local businesses at the Fall Wine Fest and a Grand Opening.

The 2010 year also promises to be a great year for Dysart and the H.A.T. Team.  As of January 18th, there are seven large bus tours coming during the spring and summer, and a number of smaller tour groups are also scheduled.

Any community resident who has a group of friends or relatives coming to Dysart and would appreciate a special Dysart welcome from the H.A.T. Team should call a Team member.  The Team’s objectives are to extend a friendly welcome to our visitors from near and far and to promote our local businesses.
